Do It Yourself Hemp Empty
PostSubject: Do It Yourself Hemp   Do It Yourself Hemp EmptyTue Nov 24, 2009 5:00 am

I know alot of people out there probably know this but i cant bare paying all that money for of the shelf hemp. just follow this guide to make vats of your own and put your OWN flavours/addatives in.

And if you buy it from a pet store etc it is megga cheap.

Hope this helps Very Happy

PREPARATION.
Level of difficulty - Simple
Preparation time - Including boiling, 30 minutes.
Equipment required - A suitably sized boiling pan, plus a bait bucket with a lid.

BASIC HEMP
1. Tip a quantity of Hemp into the bucket, cover with water and leave to soak for 24 hours.
2. Tip the Hemp and just enough water to cover the seed into the boiling pan.
3. Bring to the boil and then simmer for around 15 minutes, or until the seed starts to split. A
small white ‘tail’ will be visible through the crack when this occurs. A small quantity of water may
need to be added during the boiling process.
4. Drain off excess water and tip the Hemp into the bucket, snap on the lid and allow the contents
to stew for a few hours and its ready to go. Simple!

BOOSTED HEMP
There are a number of products that can be added to the water prior to the soaking process that
will boost attraction and enhance the palatable aspects of the bait even further.
The inclusion of Intense Sweetener, which is available from most bait companies, at 1ml per
500 grams of dry seed will greatly improve the effectiveness of the bait.
Better still, a sweetener with emulsifying properties such as Nash Bait Pro-Taste will both sweeten
and encourage the release of an oily scent trail. With any sweeteners, be careful not to add too
much though, as this will discourage prolonged feeding, as a rough guide the water just needs to
taste pleasantly sweet. If you find yourself in a situation where you are fishing for Carp that are
pre occupied with natural food, or perhaps you are using a combination of Hemp and fishmeal
boilies or pellets, then adding salt, rather than a sweetener, during the soaking process will
produce outstanding results. A heaped teaspoon of salt per 500 grams of dry seed makes a good
starting point, with some room to experiment in an upward direction. Pure Hemp Oil added during
pre soaking or to the cooked Hemp, combined with either of the previous two additives will boost
attraction considerably.

HOW LONG WILL IT KEEP?
Hemp is at its best used freshly cooked, or within a few days of it’s preparation, some anglers like
to cook it on the bank and use it hot! The bait can be used with confidence if it has been stoblack
in a fridge for a week or so. Alternatively it can be cooked, drained and then frozen in conveniently sized batches ready for use.

FISHING WITH HEMP

Surprisingly, Hemp can be used successfully as a hook bait.
For example several grains can be carefully threaded onto a fine supple hair rig, alternatively there is a rubbery artificial Hemp bait available from Enterprise tackle which makes a more durable hook bait. A hemp and sweet corn mixture with a sweetcorn or a more durable maize hook bait is worth a try.
Or if you are feeling really adventurous, a bare hook fished over a concentrated patch of Hemp has been known to produce a result, but I have to admit, I’ve never had the confidence to try it myself. The problem with fishing Hemp hook baits is that they are likely to be picked up by any coarse fish, large or small, so from a Carp anglers point of view, it’s not really a big fish selective method. But what it does make, is a fantastic back ground feed when combined with boilies, providing that is, we take into account certain factors.
For example, fishing a combination of say 15mm boilies and Hemp can produce a situation where the Carp may become pre occupied on the tiny grains of seed, leaving the boilies un eaten.
To avoid the problem of pre occupation a percentage of the boilies will need to be broken or chopped into pieces, which will give the Carp a range of Hemp to hook bait sized food items to browse over. The other important factor to consider is the weight of the hook bait, a critically balanced bait, which is one that will slowly sink and just rest on the lake bed is more likely to be sucked in by a Carp feeding on our particle mixture than say a standard bait straight out of the packet.
This can be easily achieved by fishing bottom bait and pop up combinations or by using the specially prepablack hook baits that we looked at in part 2 and 3 of the Carp Bait directory.
Magical Hemp, don’t go fishing without some!
